A great way to make a difference and feel a sense of belonging

At Key to Joy, we simply couldnโ€™t do what we do without the passion, time, and dedication of our amazing volunteers. From supporting events and working directly in the hut with our members, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we achieve.

We welcome help in all formsโ€”whether you can give a few hours now and then or commit more regularly, every contribution makes a real difference. We aim to ensure that your time with us is not only meaningful for our charity, but also rewarding and fulfilling for you.

Youโ€™re not just giving your timeโ€”youโ€™re helping to bring joy, confidence, and connection to children and young people who truly deserve it.

Meet some of our volunteers

Volunteers help us ad-hoc or regularly and sometimes just participate as part of the various activities and clubs that we run along the way. Hereโ€™s your chance to meet just some of our volunteers who all have a huge impact on the wellbeing of our members and keeping things running.

My name is Joan. I love gardening and I support the KTJ members in the environment group. My background is in education.

Iโ€™m Helen, and lead the Environment group. I have been very involved in developing a safe gardening area for the members. I spent many years teaching.

Volunteer

We are always keen to hear from potential volunteers who would like to support a local community based charity. There are several ways you can get involved, which includes:

  • Flexible options - summer holidays, once a fortnight or ad-hoc for workshops

  • Project based - support the Trustees with a strategic task or specific campaign

  • Activity based - bringing your talents or skills to the table for our members

  • Expertise and advice - being a speaker for our carers hub or our staff

  • Media and marketing - helping us generate content or raising our profile.

Become a Trustee

Could you become a Trustee?

Weโ€™re always keen to grow our board of Trustees and hear from anyone with a wealth of experience they feel will add value to the charity. As a Key to joy Trustee you will:

  • Play a vital role in its governance

  • Have oversight of funding

  • Support the leadership of activities

  • Guide the future direction of Key to Joy's development

Collaborate or facilitate activities for our members

We continually seek to diversify the activities offered to our members. If you have a skill youโ€™d like to contribute, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

There are a range of areas we cover that require more support, these include:

  • Environment Club

  • Life Skills Club

  • Games Club

You can support members on specific days and or times onsite, on the following:

  • Mondays 09:00 - 12:30 | 12:30 - 15:00 (or leave in time for the school run)

  • Tuesdays 09:00 - 12:30 | 12:30 - 15:00 (or leave in time for the school run)

  • Wednesdays 09:00 - 12:30 | 12:30 - 15:00 (or leave in time for the school run)

Alternatively, please let us know if you have any offsite activities that our members would enjoy, or a venue that we could use for a variety of events we run to entertain members.
