8 ways you can show your support for Key to Joy
At Key to Joy, we believe in the power of community and the incredible impact we can make when we come together to support our members, adults with mild to moderate learning difficulties and neurodiversity. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or new coming across us for the first time, there are many ways you can help Key to joy continue to bring joy to existing members, reach more people that need us and secure the future of the charity. Here are seven meaningful ways you can show your support:
1. Fundraise or make a donation to our charity
We are incredibly lucky to have our National Lottery Community fund, which has got us this far, alongside direct fundraising by the team and our members along the way. But it will only last so long, so it’s essential we generate our own funding channels to secure the future of the charity, which includes individuals donating and fundraising but also small businesses getting involved too. You can also get in touch if you’d like Key to joy sponsorship forms, t-shirts or collection buckets for an upcoming sponsored activity or fundraiser.
2. Volunteer your time to Key to joy and its members
We’re always looking for passionate volunteers to help us with various activities, from running organised activities with our members Monday to Wednesday, to supporting with offsite experiences and offering your time for entertainment or educational talks. We also always need support with the day-to-day running of the club, whether that’s cooking or being an additional carer available for our members. Your time and skills can make a real difference. Whether you can commit to a few hours a week or help out at special events, your involvement is invaluable. You can meet some of our volunteers here.
3. Spread the word and engage with our social media
Help us raise awareness about our mission and the importance of inclusivity. Share our posts on social media, talk about us with friends and family, or even host a small gathering to discuss our work. We’re happy to come along and ask any questions or even have a gift stall at your workplace or event. The more people know about Key to Joy, the more support we can generate. As we are still a small charity, every single share, like or mention helps. If you’re not already please follow us on Instagram and Facebook (@keytojoycharity) and LinkedIn too! And whenever you feel inspired by our content please like, comment and even share if you’d like to spread the word for us. Engagement with community groups is also helpful whether that’s on social media or in-person. Leaflets are available on request if you’d like to place them somewhere you visit regularly or have on hand for those moments we come up in conversation.
4. Attend our charity events and invite your friends along too
Join us at our upcoming events to connect with our community and learn more about our initiatives. Your presence not only supports our activities but also helps to foster a sense of belonging among participants. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook @keytojoycharity to stay up to date with upcoming events. And remember, if you click “interested” or “going” to any of our Facebook events, this helps us reach more people.
5. Become an influencer who advocates for our charity
If you have a great social media reach or audience already, whether you run a podcast or you are a neurodivergent influencer, you can absolutely help us drive more awareness and engagement. Whether that’s turning up to our events and live streaming, sharing and engaging with our content or generating content for us. We can also provide you with custom artwork and materials for our campaigns along the way to suit your brand or profile. We are always happy to hear from anyone who wants to support the charity in whatever capacity. Please reach out to Hollie via fundraising@keytojoy.org if you have any questions about how you can advocate for us and ways we can work together to reach more people.
6. Collaborate, host an event or partner with us
If you’re part of a business or organisation that likes to support local causes, please consider us as your nominated charity for an upcoming event or reach out if you’d like to collaborate or create a mutual beneficial partnership. Collaborations can take many forms, from sponsorship opportunities to joint community initiatives and content campaigns. Together, we can amplify our efforts and reach more adults with learning difficulties and neurodiversity who need support.
7. Complete a sponsored event
Why not challenge yourself this year by taking on a sponsored event in support of a great cause? Whether you prefer a gentle stroll or an adrenaline‑fuelled adventure, there’s something for everyone. You could take part in a steady walk, push yourself with a fast‑paced run, abseil down the iconic Spinnaker Tower, or even skydive if you’re feeling especially brave.
Not only will you be testing your limits, but you’ll also be helping to raise much‑needed funds and awareness. Every challenge taken on helps shine a light on our work and supports the vital services we provide within the community.
We currently have spaces available for this year’s Great South Run 10 Mile, taking place on Sunday 18 October. It’s a fantastic opportunity to take on an exciting challenge while being part of a well‑known and inspiring event.
